Hall of Fame inducts Class of 2017

Nine new members were inducted into the High Banks Hall of Fame on Aug. 3. In an event hosted by the National Midget Auto Racing Museum, a group of seven racers were joined by a historic promoter and a racing innovator as the Class of 2017.

Harry Hart, a Denver, Colo., native, was the first man to win a midget racing event at the Belleville racetrack. He dominated the 4-day racing card during the 1941 NCK Free Fair, winning each feature race on a speciallyconstructed fifth-mile track in the infield, and collected $320.50 for his efforts. Due to a lack of big car drivers and mechanics who were a part of the defense effort in WWII, the midgets were the marquee class of entertainment for the week.
