As a member of the taxpaying public we all should expect our elected leaders to know what they’re doing. Factual data, research and sound reasoning should all be component of any decisionmaking.

Whether a governing body is doing something so simple as closing a street for a community celebration or something as complex as setting the annual budget it is important to have people in place who know what they’re doing.

This Monday it was clearly obvious that members of the Belleville City Council had no idea what they were doing when it came to setting electric rates for the coming year, starting on Oct. 1.
