Spannenberg honored prior to start of Legion baseball game

For a brief shining moment it was 1950 again.

It was the perfect night for a baeball game. Warm, summer temps and a light breeze. The Concordia Cubs were in town for a twin bill against the home team Belleville Blues. Blues catcher Gene Spanennberg stepped out of the dugout prior to the game to acknowledge the crowd. He put down his catcher's mitt, and with a wry smile he tipped his hat and waived.
