New downtown building worry

With an estimated $100,000 worth of repairs needed to the interior of the building, Republic County Commissioners decided Monday to take some time to consider whether the Republic County Health Department will stay in its present location at 1206 18th ST. “When there’s that extensive amount of work needed to the building, where do you want to go from here?” health department administrator Danielle White asked commissioners Monday.
“That’s not the roof (repairs) just the interior and sealing the building upstairs so we don’t get more leaks,” White said. “The downstairs issues have been growing as the years went by without attention. “And, they’re probably going to run across things we can’t see.” White said she tried for a year to get the two contractors’ estimates she presented to the board Monday. Other contractors said they didn’t want to tackle the project or didn’t have time, she said.
