Donald C. Smith, 77, DeWitt, Nebr., died at the Wilber Care Center April 16, 2017. He was born on December 8, 1939 at Belleville, Kans. to John and Anna Mae (Ball) Smith. He graduated from Belleville High School. He married Arlene Disney April 10, 1960, and lived at DeWitt for 53 years. He was employed by Dobson Brothers for road construction, and for 40 years at American Tool Company in DeWitt as a Heat Treat Operator, retiring in 2003. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in DeWitt for over 50 years and had served on the board of trustees. He was a member of the High Flyers Square Dancing Club in Lincoln and the Shirts and Skirts Square Dancing Club in Dorchester and other clubs. Survivors include his wife Arlene L. (Disney) Smith; daughters Brenda L. Yott and Jerry Beaudette of Stanton, Nebr., and Charlene K. Durante and husband Steve of Odell, Nebr.; three grandsons; six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother; and son-in-law Eugene R. Yott Sr. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 24, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in DeWitt with Rev. Cathy Burchett and Chaplain Sharon Schuster officiating. Interment will be at a later date following cremation. The body will lie in state Sunday from 2-7 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in DeWitt with the family greeting friends and family from 2-4 p.m., and at the church one hour preceding the service on Monday. A family prayer service will be held at 10:45 a.m. Monday at the church. Memorials to family choice; Online guest book at Venrick-Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in DeWitt in charge of arrangements.
