Contractors continue to remove debris from the Republic Hotel block this week. All three buildings had basements, where much of the brick and building materials fell on the first day of demo. The south facade of the old bank building is all that remained standing early this week. Solid waste administrator Dusty Zenger said the cost of the landfill cells needed to contain the building is about $27,000, which will be charged to the City of Belleville.
